How J&J Co. was Born

Right after Julieta and I got married back in 1996, I encouraged her to start a wholesale cigar business since I was a cigar aficionado and could never find a well kept real Cuban Cigar in Cabo, the opportunity came when a good friend of mine invited me to persuit this business that was booming day by day, I did not had the time back then so I encouraged Julieta to do it.
She did extremely well the first year going around on her Jeep knocking doors (Hotels, restaurants and bars) but then she started having problems keeping her clients that were turning their backs on her when they found out that they could purchase Cuban cigars at more than half her price. When Julieta tried to explain to them that these "Cuban cigars" were fake (counterfeit) they didn't want to listen.

All this clients knew is that they were getting a "great" price from this people selling them out of their back packs. Quality, who cares! they used to say, tourists don't know one from another and most are only looking for a good deal anyway." I'll tell you! she was far from giving up. That's the day I encouraged Julieta to open a cigar shop and start educating clients about the difference between original and counterfeit Cuban cigars.

So she did, at the same time I saw the great oportunity and decided to quit my job and make a great sales team with my wife to counter strike the quick growing market of fake Cuban Cigars. We named our business J&J HABANOS (J&J for Jose & Julieta and HABANOS which is the correct name given to an ORIGINAL Cuban cigar and also is the appellation of Origin of cigars manufactured in Cuba with Cuban Tobacco). We opened a small shop and started our retail operation. Throughout this time we grew fast and earned an excellent reputation for selling the real deal and along the way earned great and faithful "clients-friends" that were supporting us in every step till this very day in 2010.

Four years later, in a much bigger place than the one we had started and with a much bigger selection of premium Cuban cigars, we look back and thank our faithful customers who believed in us and recommended our cigar shop to friends and family that later visited Los Cabos.

Even though it has been a very difficult competing with the distributors of fake cigars, it is very rewarding to see how excellence in quality and service speaks for itself and at the very same time pays off. Reputation travels fast so in 1998 Mr. Francisco Linares, President of Habanos, S.A. (The world marketing Co. for Cuban Cigars) paid an honorable visit to our business to present us with the SPECIALIST IN HABANOS GOLD AWARD, for our knowledge selection and care of our cigars, an award that only a reduced number of cigar retailers around the world have been able to obtain.

In 2004 after lots of work and good reputation Habanos, S.A. offered our Company to be the Official & Exclusive subDistributors of Cuban Cigars for the Baja Peninsula, fist time ever given to any Company out side of their usual One official distributor per Country.

Now on 2007 J&J Co. just opened a new location with a great concept, Hemingway´s cigar & Tequila Lounge along with La Casa del Habano (a beautiful walking Humidor) and La Tequileria a beautiful Tequila Boutique & Tasting Bar. (at this particular moment closed indefenetly and looking for a new location)

Even do 2009 was a very tough year in 2010 J&J Co. still growing in clientel and reputation, like everybody else we had to make some adjustments by giving up Hemingway´s Cuban Mojito Bar big location to reduce our operation cost but as we speak we are looking for a better location to reopen and keep selling our world famous Big Papa Mojitos.
